Three IU Students Win 2015 ACDA Composition Competition
|
Three IU students have swept the national American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) composition competition. Alex Berko was selected as the winner and will receive a performance of his piece Forgiven Tears by NOTUS contemporary ensemble on February 26 at the Central Division Conference in Chicago. Corey Rubin and Matt Recio were also selected to receive performances of their works, Argo ergo vitam probam and How to Survive Vesuvius respectively, at the Eastern Division Conference in Boston in mid-February. |

Texu Kim (DM '15) Receives Appointment and Commission
|
Texu Kim (DM '15) has been appointed as an Adjunct Instructor of Music Theory at Lewis and Clark College in Portland. He is going to teach 20th century music theory and aural skills class in spring semester. In addition, his new piece Morning 6/26/2015 commissioned by Ensemble Pause (comprised of five members of Alarm Will Sound) will be premiered in Riverside, CA (Wed 12/2) and in Portland, OR (Fri 12/4) as a part of the ensemble's inaugural tour. |

Gordon Williamson (DM '12) Receives Appointment in Germany
|
Gordon Williamson (DM, 2012) has been appointed Guest Professor of Composition at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover, Germany. He and American composer Ming Tsao will be leading the Institute for New Music, replacing Prof. Oliver Schneller (recently appointed to the Eastman School of Music) and Prof. Rebecca Saunders (on leave) for the 2015-16 academic year. |

Don Freund Featured at SCI, Inc. 50th Anniversary National Conference
|
November 12-14 Don Freund was the Featured Guest Composer at the Florida Contemporary Music Festival and the University of Florida School of Music hosting of the Society of Composers, Inc. 50th Anniversary National Conference. On the program was performances of his Fanfare of Celebration and Commemoration for six trumpets, Jug Blues & Fat Pickin (Symphonic Band), O Fortuna (Women's Chorus), Jubilate Deo (chorus and organ), Hard Cells (U of Fl Symphony Orchestra), and Freund performed on the Casio in his Passages for alto saxophone, horn and Casio CZ101. Other Jacobs School composition alums having works on the festival are David Heuser, Christopher Cook, Sam Wells, and Jason Bahr, and Texu Kim and Eric Fegan had their SCI/ASCAP competition commissions premiered by the Red Clay Saxophone Quartet. |
