Former IU composer John Eaton
Dies at 80

On Dec. 2, 2015, John Eaton passed away at the age of 80. The day before, he had suffered a stroke on the way to a performance of his Fantasy Romance for cello and piano in NYC and subsequently died due to complications. He was a member of the IU composition faculty for more than 20 years and was a major proponent of microtonal composition. John was a pioneer of live electronic performance in the 1960’s and ’70’s, performing over 1000 concerts worldwide.  He was also known as a leading figure for incorporating live electronics into his operas and vocal music.
