Two IU Composers will be featured at the Electronic Music Midwest Festival
Felipe Tovar-Henao and Christopher LaRosa’s music will be featured at the 2016 Electronic Music Midwest Festival, which takes place in October at Lewis University. Felipe’s work «¡Carnaval del Diablo!» matachinesque ritual for amplified clarinet and fixed electronics will be performed by IU alumna Emily Mehigh, and Christopher’s work Colonizer I for horn and live electronics will be performed by Fifth House Ensemble member Parker Nelson.

Alfonso Tenreiro (MM 1989) Selected to Represent Venezuela
Hailed by the Dallas Morning News as “classical guitar’s reigning diva” multiple Grammy Award winner Sharon Isbin opens the season with an amazing voyage of music from Spain to the new world peppered with seasonings from the Caribbean, South America and Mexico. This program includes performance of Fuentes (1986) written by JSoM alumni Alfonso Tenreiro on Sep. 23 by the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. His piece is chosen to represent Venezuela.

Don Freund
Don Freund's Fantasie for Madame McD for solo harp was premiered in June by Elzbieta Szmyt for the Gala Celebration honoring Susann McDonald during the USA International Harp Competition at IU in June. Other summer performances at the Jacobs School included Freund's Preludes for Orchestra performed by the Summer Philharmonic, and Autumnsongs performed by the Bloomington Piano Trio. In July, the Elizabeth Shea Dance Company accompanied by a trio of instrumentalists from the Jacobs School presented Freund's SeeNoHearNoSpeakNo (choreographed under the title Flawed) at Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and his In Medias Res was performed by the Onix Ensemble at the San Miguel (Mexico) Chamber Music Festival. His Unwinding the Wind for Native American Flute was presented by James Pellerite at the National Conference of the National Flute Association in San Diego in August.
