David DeBoor Canfield (DM 1983)
David DeBoor Canfield (DM 1983), will have three works premiered in the coming weeks. On February 16th, the Louisiana State University Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Carlos Riazuelo will premiere Canfield’s Prisms for String Quartet and String Orchestra. An earlier version of this work for cello quartet and cello orchestra won the Jill Sackler Cello Ensemble Composition Contest in 1986, but recently, the composer made a version for full string orchestra. On February 17th, Ian Hobson and the Sinfonia da Camera will premiere Canfield’s Rhapsody after Gershwin for Violin and Orchestra, with JSoM alumni Rachel Patrick as violin soloist. Patrick recorded the work for the English Toccata Classics label in 2015 with Hobson and the Sinfonia Varsovia. She currently resides in California where she teaches and performs widely. On March 17th, Canfield’s Duo alla Paganini will be premiered by saxophonist Jason Laczkoski and violinist Anna Draper (both of whom commissioned the work) at the North American Saxophone Alliance conference at the University of South Dakota.
