Bloomington Symphony Orchestra premiered Grant Luhmann Flute Concerto
Grant Luhmann's Flute Concerto was premiered February 19th by soloist Karen Baumgartner and the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra (of Minnesota). Conductor Manny Laureano, also principal trumpet of the Minnesota Orchestra, commissioned the work for a concert showcasing early works of composers past and present. Matthew Peterson (MM '08)
Peterson's chamber opera Voir Dire , libretto by Jason Zencka, will receive its world-premiere production with Fort Worth Opera in April. He had an interview about the opera with the director David Gately and conductor Viswa Subbaraman. My chamber opera Lifeboat , commissioned by Washington National Opera and with libretto by Emily Roller, received its Kennedy Center premiere in January as part of the American Opera Initiative. He Also was recently commissioned by Gustaf Sjökvist Chamber Choir to compose a 10 minute a cappella work for double choir, Lux Aeterna, for premiere fall 2017 on their Vietnam tour. The commission is funded by a grant from the Swedish Arts Council. Furthermore, Peterson's And all the trees of the field will clap their hands will be performed by Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra during their 2018-19 season.

Stefan Freund (BM '97)
Stefan Freund, JSoM Composition Alum and Music Professor at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO is honoring his father’s "70th year” with the following concerts: The Columbia Civic Orchestra, Stefan Freund, Artistic Director and Conductor, performed Don Freund’s PRELUDES for Orchestra on Feb 26, 2017. The Mizzou New Music Ensemble, Stefan Freund, Director, performed Don Freund's MIXED BLOOD on Feb 27. And then this summer, Alarm Will Sound will perform Don Freund’s HARD CELLS on July 27 at the Mizzou International Composers Festival, Stefan Freund, Artistic Director and Coordinator.
