Alex Berko wins Boston New Music Initiative Competition
|
Alex Berko (BM ‘18) was recently selected as the winner of the 2018 Boston New Music Initiative (BNMI) 6th Annual Commissioning Competition. As a result, Alex will compose a new work for pierrot ensemble that will be featured in Spring of 2019 by the BNMI ensemble. In addition, his new orchestral work Among Waves, commissioned by the Monterey Symphony, recently received its premiere on October 20. A review can be found here. Among Waves will also be performed by the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra on March 23 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

Brookline Youth Orchestra Performs John Ferguson's "Vincent Van Gogh"
|
John Ferguson (DMA piano, 1999) leads the Brookline Youth Orchestra in Brookline, Massachusetts in a performance of his "Vincent Van Gogh" on December 12, 2018. The piece was composed in 2008 and depicts the many facets of Van Gogh's life and work, through a wide range of compositional styles.

Tyler Habig anticipates performances in various media
|
Tyler Habig (BM ‘18) will have performances of two saxophone works in March, 2019: Washing Up On Shore (2016) will be performed by the LUCA Saxophone Ensemble in Belgium, and a new work for the Murray State Saxophone Quartet will be performed in Kentucky. He also wrote the 2019 show music for the Avon Gold Dance Team. In September, the Pops Orchestra of Sarasota & Bradenton premiered Habig's 30-minute orchestration of The Cosmic Guide LP by hip hop artist, Ryanito, and the performance is coming to Netflix in 2019.

Eric Nathan wins Fromm commission
|
Eric Nathan (MM ‘18) was awarded a commission from the Fromm Music Foundation at Harvard University for a new work for sinfonietta to be premiered by the IU New Music Ensemble in 2020. Nathan's Missing Words IV for chamber sextet premieres in November with Boston Musica Viva, commissioned for its 50th anniversary season.
