Ryan Chase (b. 1987) has had his music commissioned and performed by
ensembles across North America. Recent performances include the
international premiere of the filaments dance by the Mexico City
Woodwind Quintet at the Foro Internacional de Música Nueva Manuel
Enríquez as well as the premiere of his harp and piano duo, spaceful
time, at the Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music.
The recipient of the 2010 IU Dean’s Prize, he is currently working on
a commission for the IU New Music Ensemble. He has received awards
from ASCAP, New York Art Ensemble, Alaria, and other organizations.
Other projects have¬ included premieres with the Chelsea Symphony, the
Mannes Orchestra, CIRCE, and members of the Empire State Youth
Orchestra.
Past and present teachers include Keith Fitch, Claude Baker, and Don
Freund. He has also participated in lessons, festivals, and
masterclasses with Samuel Adler, Chen Yi, Jennifer Higdon, Paul
Moravec, and George Tsontakis. He received a B.M. from the Mannes
College of Music in 2008, graduating with the school’s top prizes for
composition and theory. He received an M.M. from IU in 2010 where he
is currently pursuing a doctorate and teaching undergraduate theory
courses as an Associate Instructor. Ryan is a member of ASCAP.
