Ballet Department Choreographic Workshop Collaborations
(Currently not happening in the Spring 2011)
The chair of the Ballet Department, Michael Vernon, is interested in having at least a couple of his student choreographers in the spring Choreography Project use music by IU composers. At least for this year, we are talking about completed works for which a performance can be relatively easily arranged for the workshop on _______________. This might work especially well for works with recital performances planned for near the same time, but other works can be considered if you can commit to assembling the performers.
Parameters:
1. length = 4 to 7 minutes
2. instrumentation = 1-5 players (this is a limitation set by the size of the theatre - Buskirk-Chumley, so the instruments will have to be set [very quickly and easily] on the side of the stage. An upright piano will likely be available.
3. a recording must exist (either live instruments or midi)
4. There will be a dress rehearsal on ________________. These will most probably happen later in the day. Michael Vernon will accommodate all musicians if they have schedule conflicts, by rearranging the order of the ballets, for these rehearsals only.
5. Some pieces will be performed on one day, and some on two days. A large number of students have signed up for this course. If there are schedule conflicts with the days, Michael Vernon will arrange for the piece to be played on one day only.
DEADLINE: _____________
If you would like your music considered by the student choreographers, leave the following for Michael Vernon at the Ballet Office in the MAC Room 308 (or send it to Michael Vernon through campus mail, with a note as to what it is for):
a) recording (live or midi)
b) a printout of program note, your name and contact info.
Composers will be notified by ___________ if their works have been selected for performance.
