Welcome to the IU Bassoon Day!
What is Bassoon Day?
Bassoon Day is an annual event hosted by the bassoon studio at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. Each year, we host a myriad of guest clinicians, vendors, and specialists from all over the bassoon world. In addition to the hosts, William Ludwig and Kathleen McLean, the event features a keynote guest artist for masterclasses, performances and lecturers. Past guest artists have included, Bram van Sambeek, Richard Hoenich, and Christopher Millard.
For Bassoon Day 2018, Bram van Sambeek will return as guest artist. Mr. van Sambeek is a highly acclaimed soloist in the European classical music scene, playing on a famous bassoon once owned by Klaus Thunemann and Sergio Azzolini. Bram is known for his fiery, expressive playing and his eclectic taste in styles. For more information on Bram van Sambeek, visit his website at bramvansambeek.com.
Masterclasses are available for all levels of player, and are by no means limited to current IU students. Typically there will be masterclasses for middle and high school students, as well as separate classes for college age students and young professionals.
There will also be the tables for many of the leading vendors of double reed goods, repair options, instruments to try, bocals, reed supplies, music, and more!
