Student Locker Information
You are eligible if you are enrolled in at least one JSoM music class, if not enrolled please contact our office for more details. We are limited on locker sizes and availability, so if you do not have a need to store an instrument please do not request a locker. Lockers are meant for one instrument for one person and are not intended for personal storage. Larger lockers are meant for the larger instruments, not for multiple instruments or for sharing as they are very limited.
Combinations are kept secured and at any time your locker needs to be repaired we send two workers to fix it. If we need the locker to be emptied, we will notify you ahead of time. Locker Request Dates
Renewals: starts four weeks before the end of your locker rental due date. If not renewed it will be considered cancelled, locks will be changed, and items remaining in locker will result in fines.
New Requests: three weeks before the start of the semester or anytime during an active semester.
All lockers are issued based on your Major and a first-come first-served basis, so your prompt response might be the difference in whether you get a locker or not.
Please fill out either the Locker Contract FormOR email somfac [at] indiana [dot] edu (do NOT send the request to both as it will result in multiple requests and multiple charges). Include all the information that is listed in the contract form (Name, I.U. email address, student I.D. #, instrument you are majoring in, case size in inches only - HEIGHT x WIDTH x DEPTH, which semesters you want to rent for, list in order your location preference - MA, MU, SIMON, MAC, ESB).
It is very important that you list all the details of your instrument for proper size selection of your locker in inches from your I.U. email address only (if sent by any other email account your request will not be accepted).
If we receive your request 2 - 3 weeks before the 1st day of classes we will do our best to have your locker assigned by the 1st day of classes. Requests received a week before or during the 1st week of classes, we will do our best to have your locker assigned by the end of the 2nd week of classes.
**Only send an email requesting a status update on your locker assignment if you have not been assigned a locker by the end of the 2nd week of classes and have had your request in for at least 2 weeks. We assign 800+ lockers and distribute thousands of keys to 2,000+ people at the beginning of a semester, along with other facility duties - please be patient. Do not send in another request as it will result in multiple charges.
What Else Should I Know?
You MUST be enrolled in a JSOM class. All music MAJORS will be assigned lockers first. Once all Majors have been assigned then music MINORS will be assigned therefore minors may not get assigned for a few weeks after the start of the semester.
Lockers are assigned based on your Major instrument size and availability. They are issued to safely store one instrument for one person and are not intended to store personal belongings. Large lockers are for those majoring with the large instruments only. Lockers are located in the Musical Arts Center, Music Annex, Merrill Hall, East Studio Building, and the Simon Music Center.
Not all lockers at JSoM are rentable lockers through the Facilities Department. Tuba and bass lockers are handled by the Instrument Rental Office. We do not have lockers for drum sets, please see the percussion department on further information on storage. We do not assign lockers for keys boards or keyboard stands.
Upon rental and during use, report any damage or needed repairs to Music Facilities somfac [at] indiana [dot] edu. If your locker door does not open or shut properly, do not force it and report it immediately.
Lockers will not be issued unless a Student ID Number is provided this can be found on your One.IU account. (NOT Social Security or Crimson Card Numbers)
Any falsified information in requesting your locker will result in the loss of your locker.
***It is important that you read all emails received from the facilities office/staff. The information sent by us is important. Please read the entire email before you send us an email or call asking us a question as we make sure our emails are very detailed and your answer will most likely be answered within the email itself.
Locker Rules and Fees
Lockers are University property, rented to students for $40.80 per semester. Your bursar account will be charged for the rental and the cost of any damages incurred during the time the locker is assigned to you.
A lock is issued with the locker. At no time are you to replace it with a personal lock. All personal locks will be cut off and your bursar account will be charged a penalty fee of $20. Replacement locks will cost $30.
Do not keep food or beverages in your locker. If complaints of foul odors or bugs are reported, we will remove the items and a $20 penalty fee will be charged. No alcohol or illegal substances/items are allowed - proper authorities will be notified.
If you do not renew your locker before the due date your locker will be considered cancelled.
All items must be removed from the locker and locker must be cleaned out at the end of your rental if you have not renewed it. If any items are left in the locker a $35 late fee will be charged (even if you cancelled your locker on time) and we will change the locks. Contact our office within 30 days to claim your items. Items not claimed within 30 days will be charged an additional $35 for a storage fee and items will be removed from the locker. Any items not claimed within 60 days of your original locker vacate date will be considered abandoned and music related items will be made available free to music students in Clouse's lounge, all other materials will be sent to the main campus lost & found at Ballentine room 031. All charges are non-refundable. If you decide to renew the locker past the due date but before the 30 days is up - you will be charged for that semester plus the late fee.
You can cancel your locker request/renewal up until your Bursar is charged or your locker assignment/renewal email is sent out - there will be no fees if done BEFORE charges/assignment/confirmation. If your Bursar has been charged and/or you were sent your locker assignment/renewal email you will be charged a $10 cancellation fee. If you cancel AFTER 5 days of being assigned your locker assignment/renewal there will be NO REFUNDS given.
